Just A Dream

While driving home yesterday, I played this song off our iPod. This song speaks to my heart and I know it will yours.

I started my period today. I knew it was coming while on vacation. I am very in tuned to my body and the cramps were all too familiar, but I refused to let it ruin my vacation. This song, however, makes the pain of another month lost of growing our family seem so minuscule compared to all the women out there who won't even have the chance to conceive a child because their husbands lives were taken at war. I have my husband, I have my health and I have my little Ella...I just have to focus on that whenever I feel overwhelmed and emotionally drained from this battle through infertility.

Home Sweet Home

First off, I want to say that it's SO GOOD TO BE HOME. Even though I absolutely love camping (after camping yearly with my family while growing up and camping tons with Aaron "pre-Ella" time), there is nothing like the feeling of walking in my house for the first time in days, witnessing the comfort and warmth that only my house can provide. The colors seem brighter, the rooms look more inviting, the little things I usually take for granted become so pleasing and welcoming. Thank you, God, for this beautiful house you have given me to call our home.

Ella puts it best. When we first got home, she walked into our family room and said, "Ooooh, this carpet is so dry and warm!" And then, when going to bed, she tiredly, yet excitedly, said, "I like my bed!" Those little things that day in and day out we take for granted become heightened and more appreciated after not having them for awhile. Even little Ella recognizes it!

Okay, now to camping...

Camping was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The drive up and back was far less than amazing, but Ella did as good as any 3-year old can do. 396 very long miles! On our way up, after we passed Eureka, a town about 20 miles South of Patrick's Point, I had to turn our GPS off because Aaron was spending more time watching the miles count down than he was watching the road! Needless to say, we were all so excited when we arrived! Breathing in that coastal fresh air. Oh, that fresh air! Patrick's Point seriously has a scent all of its own. Perfect, crisp, refreshing! I can imagine the smell as I breath in right now.

Very common for Northern California coastal weather, most of the days were foggy and damp. So foggy, in fact that the mist built up on the leaves that dropped on us like massive rain drops. Many nights we'd wake up to the pounding of the drops on our tent trailer and we'd think it was raining. The fog typically wore off by early afternoon, but that didn't stop us from exploring during the cold morning hours!

Most days began with a warm, hearty breakfast or Costco muffins (gotta love 'em!), and then we'd either go on a hike, head to Agate Beach and/or go on a bike ride. Afterward, we'd take HOT showers, alternating who would have to take a shower with Ella each day (the showers with Ella were far less enjoyable, haha!). We'd come out from the showers to beautiful blue skies and rays of sunshine cutting through the trees. Seeing that, on top of feeling clean and refreshed, topped among some of the best moments I experienced during this trip.

Some other highlights that come to my mind.

1. Ella's passion for bike riding. Whether it be on Aaron's bike in her 40-pound capacity bike seat (we weighed her before we left...thankfully she was shy of that mark) or on her own training-wheeled Disney bike, she has a need for speed! We would walk around the campgrounds with Bob, allowing Ella to ride ahead of us, and, boy oh boy, is our little girl quite the daredevil. We trusted her, though, because every time she got too far, we would simply yell, "Stop!" and she'd skid to a stop. She was always on the lookout for cars and knew to move to the side and stop.

2. Ella's passion for the beach. Her love for finding "targets" (somehow that is what she came to call agates), her love for digging and carrying around buckets full of rocky sand and her LOVE for wading in the ice cold waves ankle deep.

3. Banana slugs.

4. Aaron catching a snake.

5. Ella compassionately singing "Happy Birthday" to Aaron around the campfire.

6. The deer that came into our campsite and stared us down (with red eyes, Aaron would like to add).

7. How excited Bob got when we finally took him off the leash at Cannon Beach, a beach just South of Patrick's Point, after being on a leash 24-7, unless in his crate in the tent trailer (Patrick's Point regulations).

8. Ella being a trooper on the countless hikes and steps (oh, the steps!).

9. "Roberfro." We started calling Bob "Roberto" for fun and Ella's version always made us laugh.

10. Aaron's fire building. Or should I say, his "tower" fire building?

11. Giving the biggest agate I found away. Yes, you heard right! We were down at the beach one day and I noticed this guy avidly looking for agates. He was so determined! He literally stayed in the same spot forever, digging away, allowing a wave to work its magic, and then anxiously looking to see if the ocean revealed any beauties. So, while heading back to the head of the beach trail, I went up to him and asked him if he was having any luck finding any agates. He quietly said, "Oh, a couple, but they are small." Then, I pulled out my beauty...an agate I had been carrying around in my pocket for days...and told him that I felt really compelled to give that to him. I really think it was God telling me to do it. The warmth and certainty and I had in doing it could only be described as God. He grabbed the beautiful rock and looked at me, "Why on earth would you give this to me? That is just so sweet!" He was so happy, shocked and surprised. He said, "They make them this big?!?" I told him that I had been going to Patrick's Point since I was born and I have thousands of agates at home. And truthfully, I miss that beautiful agate (the design was perfect!), but I know the story of generosity I gave him to share with family and friends and the beautiful rock he has to show off far out reaches my desire to have it in my possession. Pay it forward, everybody! It feels really good!

12. The tired craziness that overcame Ella from 5:00 on. I guess I couldn't consider this a highlight, but it's a memory I will take with me. I have pictures to prove this craziness.

13. Riding down hills at full speed with Aaron (with Ella) behind me. The uphills absolutely sucked, but the downhills far made up for them!

14. Finding deer in the meadow on the way to Ceremonial Rock.

15. Ella dancing when we turned on the portable radio.

16. My burnt shoe!!! Luckily, I accidentally packed my least favorite tennis shoes. I got soaked by a wave one day and Aaron, being the sweet fire-loving husband that he is, offered to dry the shoes by the fire. As I was in the tent getting things ready for us to all take showers, I hear Aaron yell, "Hun, you're not going to be happy with me!" I come out and one of my shoes is smoking! It's absolutely ruined! Aaron tries to fix it as best as he can, even though the shoelaces are charred and the thin breathable cloth is gone, but it looked like an absolute mess. And it is with this absolute mess that I rode my bike and hiked down to the beach again. Not complaining while it was happening, I woke up the next day with a blister on my foot and my knee extremely sore from limping. Needless to say, we scouted out for the nearest shoe store, which turned out to be about ten miles away, to find me some fun grandma-looking white sneakers. A lady later commented on my shoes and said, "Wow, those white shoes won't stay white for long." They were quite blinding for maybe...oh...an hour. Haha!

Okay, there are probably more highlights to add to this list, but I'm quite tired and so eager to jump into my comfortable bed. Good night!

Five Years Too Fast

Today is Aaron and my fifth anniversary! Huh??? How is that even possible? It surely doesn't feel like we've been married five years, but as the old saying goes...time flies when you're having fun. :)

Aaron surprised me with the most sentimental, lovable, creative gift on the face of the planet. He created a 100-page book of pictures from our past five years.

First, he read a poem to me, and for those of you who know Aaron, you know that his gift of poetry is real and wonderful. I'm the luckiest woman alive to have a husband write such beautiful poetry to me. I have a book of HUNDREDS of poems I've kept over the years. I will cherish them forever.

Within the first couple lines, the tears started to flow. Ella was demanding our attention while Aaron read the poem to me, so it made the moment a little less romantic, but still so sweet nonetheless! I asked Aaron if I could post the poem on my blog, and he said, "Of course!" To better understand the poem you may want to read Match Made in Heaven to remember how we met. So, here is the poem (get your tissue ready):

This anniversary,
It's a precursor event,
You are the most incredible person that I have ever met.
And how could I forget,
You found me,
A hundred million people, how could I be so lucky?
And I think it's funny,
How our lives intertwined,
Mind buzzin' like a beehive because your love had robbed me blind.
Yup, you clogged up my mind,
Nothing could get through,
I took a 24-hour bus drive with a bunch of "tweekers" just so that I could see you.
And that was just the start,
I loved you from the start,
I knew it when I felt all the blood go from my brain to my heart.
And like pourin' rain, it did start,
That love you can't fake,
The kind of devotion that emotions create.
And this emotional state,
Ticket to San Diego,
Comin' down the terminal I was as scared as a scarecrow.
What if she doesn't like me?
Will I look good enough for her?
What if this doesn't play out like I think it will occur?
And the rest is a blur,
From the escalator on,
My heart beat escalates but all the worries are gone.
And it could never go wrong,
My life is perfect in the literal sense,
Sure, we've had bumps in the road but those are just minimal dents.
And in the subliminal sense,
I'm writing this for me for her,
To make me a better father and lover and husband, I'm sure.
And just as it were, we're five years later,
I can still picture myself on that escalator.
First glance at her eyes,
The tone of her skin,
Is this a trance in disguise or a bona fide friend?
And, of course, it's the latter,
Honey, no more hearts will be shattered,
I'm gonna fill you with love,
And memories of laughter.
Don't give up on me now,
We're in this together,
I feel like I can fly, you're the wings to my feather.

I won't give up on you, babe. This infertility has had an unfortunate toll on our relationship, but not once did I not feel your strength keeping me up when I've wanted to fall. Not once did I feel like I was truly alone in this battle. I won't ever give up on you because you have never given up on me. I love you!

Then, he presented the book to me. I was shaking because I was so shocked, excited and happy to see his surprise for me! I cried, laughed, ooooh'd and awww'd while slowly absorbing the memories of each page. Out of the 50,000+ pictures we have accumulated, he somehow was able to concise our collection to only 500 pictures in this book.

The front cover.

The back cover.

There is no possible way for me to pick my favorite pages to show you, so I just opened up the book a few times and whatever pages I landed on were the pages I took pictures of. Click on each picture to view a bigger version. Enjoy!

The inside lip of the back cover. If you can't read it, Aaron wrote, "I love Mommy" on Ella's hand. So cute!

Bobbi, Ella and Aaron are Unbelievably Together, Infinitely Friends and Ultimately in Love.

After looking at the book and realizing Aaron must've poured HOURS into creating it, I asked how he found the time to work on it without me knowing. He confessed that he woke up in the middle of the night to work on it. Yeah, my reaction exactly...OH MY GOSH!!! How did I get so lucky? Seriously, how did I get so lucky?

Ella's Bathroom Makeover

A little while ago I posted an entry about our master bedroom transformation, in which I mentioned I would post "before" pictures, so you could see the transformation for yourself. Well, here they are!

Puke! Just seeing these pictures reminds me of the smell. You might ask why we moved into a house so trashed. Well, we bought it through probate, which means we bought it from an estate "as is" in turn for a price far below market value. Little did we know not even a year after we move in that the housing market would plummet. Oh well!

Okay, here are some "before" pictures of the hall bathroom, to us known as Ella's bathroom.

Luckily the bathtub, toilet and countertop were left in relatively good condition. Once the porcelain and tile received a good Aaron-certified cleaning, the sparkles began to shine. We replaced the floor about a year ago (it matches the floor in our kitchen / laundry room). And we replaced the hardware on the cabinets, the mirror and the light fixture.

Because it's "Ella's bathroom" (at least for right now), what better way to signify that than by painting the walls a nice lavender and hanging pictures of her. The bathroom is simple, clean and just perfect. In fact, I wash my face and do my make-up in her bathroom because I like it more than the master bathroom. Makes it easier when Aaron and I are both having to get ready to go somewhere in the morning. No bumping elbows!

The view as you walk in from the hallway.

The countertop. And yes, we framed a picture of Hippo. He is basically our adopted son. He was once Ella's #1 companion who went with her everywhere. She has slowly grown apart from him, but he is still dear to my heart. Mainly because I want to remember the days of Ella's babyhood.

The toilet (because I know how badly you want to see our toilet). Haha!

Another view.

Splish splash, I was taking a bath. If you look closely, you can see the leftover bubbles for Ella's bubble bath tonight.

Out of all the impressions I did throughout the house, this one is by far my favorite! Ella's laughter definitely sparkles like a splash of water in sunlight!

Our medicine cabinet, Ella's basket of bath toys...nothing too exciting.

One last view of the countertop and mirror. This is where I spend hours every morning doing my hair and make-up...NOT!!!

Well, once again, I hope you enjoyed seeing a little bit of our work-in-progress house. It's exciting to share our hard work with you!

You know you're infertile when...

I found this funny checklist on Waiting and Wishing's blog. Some of you may not know what some of it means, but for me, it's super funny and is a great comic relief about something so unfortunate and depressing.

You know you're infertile when...

1.  You can say words like vagina, semen, cervical mucus without even flinching. (Yeah, it's pretty much in my everyday vocabulary).

2.  Your nurse knows you when you call. (Yeah, Theresa knows me very well. She has my birthday memorized (what they have to ask in order to obtain my charts). She tells me, "Good thing I like you, since I see you so much!" And then I joke back that I'm purposely causing my infertility so I get to see her all the time.  She's really helped me a lot during this time).

3.  You know every acronym that has anything to do with TTC. (BFP, BFN, HPT, CM, DH, BBT, BBs, OPK, 2WW, BD...the list goes on. And most of you probably don't know what the heck I'm talking about. Haha).

4.  You can tell the doctor your temperature to a hundredth of a degree. (This one doesn't really apply to me because I never really watched my basal body temperature to monitor my ovulation).

5.  You've stopped thinking of days in terms of actual dates, and have started going by cycle days alone. (Haha! I don't really do that, but that's funny).

6.  You refuse to purchase tampons until it is too late. (Unfortunately, this has happened to me and Aaron had to make a run to the store. I simply refused to spend the money on something I was praying I'd never have to use again. Little did I know...).

7.  You refuse to go into a hot tub in fear of hard boiling your eggs. (Yes, and I pretty much refuse to let Aaron hot tub, too, for fear of him boiling away his little guys).

8.  Your mood is in direct correlation with the line on your BBT chart. (Never really charted, so this doesn't apply to me either).

9.  You've said the words "forced marital coitus" to your husband. (I haven't said those words, but "coitus" definitely has become more of a planned event, rather than romantic spontaneity).

10.  You've completly filled the "nursery" with other things in hopes of moving them out soon.  (The office will be the nursery. It just has a desk, our computer and a chair in there right now, but I have visualized what furniture will be put where. Rearranging furniture is my expertise).

11.  You plan family visits and events around ovulation. (Oh yes! I made sure I wouldn't be ovulating next week while camping. And, I made sure I wouldn't be ovulating while Aaron is visiting Portland next month).

12.  You have zero time for complaining mothers or pregnant women. (They seriously need to SHUT IT!).
